Description
Mark Twain. A Tramp Abroad. Hartford, Conn.: American Publishing Company, 1880.8vo. Inserted portrait frontispiece, frontispiece, and numerous illustrations. Portrait frontispiece in BAL state B, frontispiece in BAL's second state, sheets measure 1 3/8 inches as in BAL's state B, blindstamped cover in BAL's state B. Publisher's cloth stamped in blind and gilt.
FIRST EDITION, SIGNED by the author on the front pastedown, "Truly yours, Mark Twain." With the ownership inscription of Twain's secretary, Isabel Lyon, "The Property of Miss I. V. Lyon" beneath Twain's signature.
Condition: Spine sunned and gilt on spine panel rubbed, spine ends pushed and frayed, small hole in cloth on spine, cloth a bit scuffed and with a few stains, corners rubbed. Binding shaken and front hinge loose but holding, rear hinge cracked and starting. Foxing to portrait frontispiece and tissue guard, some toning to textblock, scattered foxing.
