The Philosophy of Animal Magnetism. Philadelphia: Merrihew & Gunn, 1837. First edition. Originally, incorrectly, attributed to Edgar Allan Poe. 12mo in sixes. 84 pages. Original printed paper over boards, backed in terra cotta cloth. Moderate edgewear, spine sunned, rubbed and soiled, some dampstaining, ink ownership to upper board. Cream endpapers, endpapers foxed, bookplate to front pastedown. Edges speckled in blue, foxed. Housed in dark grey cloth clamshell case backed in black morocco, stamped in gilt; joints starting, somewhat rubbed. Very good.[Together with]: Edgar A[llan] Poe. Eureka. A prose poem. New York: Geo[rge] P. Putnam, 1848. First edition. Ex-libris Mayer Sulzberger. 12mo. 143, [1, blank], 12 (publisher's catalog) pages. Publisher's brown wavy cloth stamped in blind, spine lettered in gilt. Corners bumped and rubbed with boards showing, moderate edgewear, chipping to spine with approximately 2-inches lost, front joint starting. Cream endpapers; bookplate to front pastedown, minor foxing. Internally generally clean and tight; effaced library stamp of Mayer Sulzberger to copyright page and page [144], minor dampstaining, minor foxing. Very good.

Publisher's pictorial terra cotta cloth stamped in gilt, spine lettered in gilt. Corners just bumped, moderate edgewear, head and foot of spine pushed and somewhat worn, rubbed. Brown coated endpapers, bookplate to front pastedown, rear hinge starting, pencil marks. Internally clean, all edges trimmed; minor intermittent thumbsoiling, text block edges toned with minor wear. Housed in lavender cloth slipcase backed in purple morocco, stamped in gilt with lavender cloth chemise; minor wear, top edge sunned. Very good.
