The Rarest Edition of Cather's Masterpiece

Willa Cather. Death Comes for the Archbishop. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1927. First edition. Number 40 of 50 specially-bound copies printed on Japan vellum and signed by Cather on the limitation page. Octavo. [x], 303, [304, Note on the Type] pages. Publisher's decorative vellum gilt. Top edge gilt. Housed in the original green paper slipcase with black spine label lettered in gilt, somewhat worn with a bump to the spine head and label and a portion of the top side missing. Minimal edge wear to the binding. Minor spotting to boards. Spine a bit darkened. Bookplate removed from front pastedown. A very clean text, mostly unopened at the fore-edges. Near fine condition. Leather bookplate of renowned musician, Efrem Zimbalist affixed to the front pastedown, which has offset on the front free endpaper. A beautiful copy of one of the rarest finds in the Cather canon.
