Sinclair Lewis. Group of 3 first editions, each a presentation copy.Sinclair Lewis. Babbitt. New York: Harcourt Brace and Company, [1922]. 8vo, original blue cloth, lettered and stamped in orange. FIRST EDITION, FIRST STATE. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the front free endpaper in ink (and red pencil): "To F. C. Kendall, / from his friends / Yours merrily / Chum Frink / and / Sinclair Lewis / Hartford Oct. 4, 1922." The red pencil portion within the inscription is in Lewis' hand and refers to the character in the book, T. Cholmondeley "Chum" Frink, a member of Babbitt's social group, and a popular poet whose work is syndicated throughout the country. F. C. Kendall was managing editor of Printer's Ink Magazine, to which Lewis contributed several pieces. Spine rubbed and worn at ends, with some splits along joints; hinges cracked, with front free endpaper (with inscription) detached; a little spotting to endpapers. - Lewis. Dodsworth. New York: Harcourt Brace and Company, [1929]. 8vo, original blue cloth, lettered and stamped in orange. FIRST EDITION. PRESENATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the front free endpaper: "Dear Harry Canby -- / thank you for the best review! / Sinclair Lewis." Henry Seidel Canby (1878-1961) was an influential professor, critic, and editor who studied and taught at Yale, where he edited the Yale Review and championed American Literature as a field worthy of study. A little wear to extremities; spine sunned; a few white stains to upper cover and spine. - Lewis. Cass Timberlane. New York: Random House, [1945]. 8vo, original tan cloth, stamped in gilt and blue; dust jacket (unclipped); cloth slipcase. FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the front free endpaper: "'...and it better be good, after the way you say you love me' says Jean Lawlor-so here it is / Sinclair Lewis." Dust jacket with minor rubbing to extremities with a few creases and tiny nicks, otherwise a fine copy.
