First edition, first issue, with the correct issue points as per Goldstone & Payne. Signed by John Steinbeck on the front free endpaper. In addition, publisher Pascal Covici's business card and a small pamphlet with favorable comments about Steinbeck's work are both laid in. Small octavo. 186, [6, blank] pages.

Publisher's beige cloth, front cover and spine stamped in black and orange, original dust jacket. Jacket spine slightly browned, jacket edges rubbed, some light thumbsoiling to the jacket's rear panel. Still, a fine copy with Steinbeck's signature. Housed in cloth slipcase.
