4 and 1/3 pages on 5 sheets (10 7/8 x 8 1/2 inches; 275 x 215 mm), written in pencil.

JAMES AGEE UNPUBLISHED MANUSCRIPT ESSAY ON MAHATMA GANDHI. Written in Agee's characteristic cramped handwriting and following a few crossed out thoughts and rewrites, the unpublished essay begins: "One of the great saints and heroes the world has known, has died, and it was only after hearing of his death that I began at all acutely to realize... what he has achieved..." With emendations, additions, and deletions throughout in Agee's hand.

Condition: Uneven toning to first page; mild wrinkling and light soiling, with some occasional smudging.
