8vo. Publisher's brown cloth-backed boards, spine stamped in brown. Housed in a custom quarter morocco slipcase, matching chemise.

FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO HIS CZECH TRANSLATOR on the front free endpaper: "Herr / Karel Musek / with best wishes / from J. M. Synge / Jan 1st 1908."

Karel Musek (1867-1924) was a Czech actor, noted for translating many of Synge's works into Czech.

Synge's inscriptions are exceedingly rare, having passed away from undiagnosed Hodgkin's lymphoma in 1909 at the age of 37.

Condition: Mild edgewear, corners just bumped.
