FIRST EDITION, IN THE FIRST ISSUE DUST JACKET. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR TO THE CHIEF OF NAVAL PSYCHICATRY on the half title: "For Dr. A. A. Marsteller / with many thanks for / your help - / Herman Wouk / 7 March 1951." First issue dust jacket with "The City Boy" misprint on rear panel. Also included is a second issue dust jacket.

Capt. A. A. Marsteller (1884-1979) was a career Naval officer and psychiatrist. He served two tours of duty as Chief of Naval Psychiatry before WWII. During the war, he commanded naval hospitals devoted to war neuroses in the Pacific Theater and in California.

Condition: Corners just bumped. Dust jacket decoratively clipped, price intact (priced "$3.95"); jacket worn; spine toned, scattered staining; chipped and torn with areas of loss at spine panel edges; losses to rear panel at top and bottom edges; splits at folds; some loss to rear panel fold affecting a few letters of text; spine and rear panel reinforced on verso.
