FIRST EDITION, FIRST IMPRESSION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the front free endpaper: "For Leonard Russell / with kind regards from / Evelyn Waugh."

Leonard Russell (1906-1974) was the assistant director and literary editor of the Sunday Times, for whom Waugh wrote literary reviews and articles. Russell also published excerpts of Waugh's books in the paper.

Condition: Touch of wear to cloth. Dust jacket unclipped (priced "12s. 6d. net"), scattered soiling and spotting, particularly to rear panel; lightly toned; minor edgewear and a short tear.
