Publisher's black Fabroleen cloth (Type A) stamped in matte orange-red; original illustrated first issue dust jacket without reviews. Skewed, corners bumped, head and foot of spine pushed, somewhat rubbed. White endpapers; effaced pencil notations to the front pastedown, minor foxing. Internally clean and tight, top and fore-edge trimmed, tail edge rough-trimmed; minor scattered foxing chiefly to edges, text block edges lightly toned with minor wear. Dust jacket featuring the publisher's decorative clip (10s 6d); minor edgewear, chipping to head and foot of spine and corners, toned, minor soiling to back panel. Very good book and dust jacket.A beautiful copy of the story that began the Bond legacy, described by Fleming himself to his close friend, Robert Harling, as the "spy novel to end all spy novels."
