Various authors. Three vampire books. Various publishers: 1928-1935. First editions. Gertrude Dunn. The Mark of the Bat. London: Thornton Butterworth Limited, 1928. First edition, first printing. Octavo. 192 x 130 mm. 302, [1, blank], [1, advertisement] pages. Publisher's purple cloth, upper board stamped in blind, lettered in black on spine. Binding somewhat cocked, corners bumped and rubbed, light scuffing to boards, some fraying to edges, head and tail pushed, spine sunned. Text block edges toned with scattered staining, bottom edge untrimmed, hinges starting, bookseller notations to front endpapers, bookseller label of "John M. Watkins" to front pastedown. Pages generally toned, lightly foxed. Very good.[Together With:] John Lambourne. The Unmeasured Place. London: John Murray, 1933. First edition, in original illustrated dust jacket. Octavo. Publisher's red cloth lettered in black to upper board and spine, with author facsimile signature stamped to upper board. Covers bowed, corners rubbed, spine sunned, joints worn with some edgewear. Text block edges lightly toned, dusted, foxed, hinges starting, bookseller notations to front free endleaf recto, light foxing to preliminaries, some off-setting from dust jacket to endpapers. Dust jacket unclipped, priced "7s. 6d. / net," somewhat foxed and soiled, light chipping along edges, crinkling at head, inner flaps more heavily foxed and toned. Very good book in very good dust jacket.
[And:] Ridgwell Cullum. The Vampire of N'Gobi. London: Chapman & Hall, 1935. True first edition, first printing, in the scarce original illustrated dust jacket. Octavo. Publisher's yellow cloth lettered in black on spine. Binding bright with light staining to lower board, some toning to edges, head and tail slightly pushed, light edgewear. Hinges tight, pencil notation to front pastedown, previous ownership signature of "G.H. Vaughan," dated November 1939, to front free endleaf recto. Internally clean and bright. Dust jacket unclipped, priced "7'6 / net", somewhat soiled, light chipping to edges with minimal losses at folds, some tears to head and tail, tape repair and reinforcement to head and tail of spine on verso, some staining to spine and rear flap, abrasion to spine, likely from removal of a label. Near fine book in very good dust jacket.
