Description

The Princess Bride Production Sign. Circa 1987. 20 x 30 inches; wooden sign painted white and decorated in black, red, and gold. Moderate edgewear, somewhat scuffed, worn, and soiled. Despite wear, still an incredibly charming and iconic item. Very good.

Nowadays, film sets are littered with plain yellow and black signs, often with code names, technical phrases, and occasionally with pointing the wrong way, to deter gathering fans. Gone are the days of these beautiful, themed signs, this one announcing the production of what would become a beloved cult film in the style it truly deserves. Decorated like the opening to a lavish, old fairytale book, it reads, "Please excuse any inconvenience... The work going on is in preparation for the filming of a Major Motion Picture entitled 'The Princess Bride.' Thanks for your cooperation." Property from the Estate of William Goldman, New York City. This lot comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Mr. Goldman’s daughter, Ms. Jenny Goldman.
