The Art-Journal was the most important Victorian journal devoted to art. Originally begun in 1839 as The Art Union Monthly Journal, the magazine changed its name to The Art-Journal in 1849 with the volumes offered here the first published under the new name. These volumes offer a comprehensive contemporaneous overview of the mid-nineteenth-century art world, with heavy emphasis on the British art scene. Includes articles and many, many illustrations, with several impressively realized full-page engraved plates.
