8vo. Original blue buckram-backed linen over boards, upper cover and spine stamped in gilt; acetate dust jacket. Housed in a handsome custom half black morocco clamshell case.

FIRST EDITION, LIMITED ISSUE, one of 1,000 copies SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. Additionally a PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR on the front free endpaper: "Inscribed for Ingle Barr - / In 1965 it is appropriate to consider the line I've marked, Pp. 759-60! / Cordially, MacKinlay Kantor / 31 March - 1965 / Siesta Key." The lines he has underlined on pages 759-60 are from the concluding passage: "Or, while she is seeking a middle course, will they lay her glory in the dust?" A very fine copy of Kantor's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece.
