Born in Scotland, mathematician Eric Temple Bell (1883-1960) wrote non-fiction under his given name, but used the pseudonym John Taine for his fictional publications. His first novel, The Purple Sapphire, was published in 1924. This lot includes two of his later novels. From the Robert and Diane Yaspan Collection.
