Description

Ira Levin: A Kiss Before Dying (New York: Simon and Schuster, Inc., 1953), first edition, 244 pages, green-cloth binding with black lettering and decorations, 8vo (5" x 8"), dust jacket (in protective sleeve). This was the first novel by Ira Levin (b. 1929), who began his career in television (while still a college student) before moving on to major fiction and playwriting. A Kiss Before Dying (winner of the 1953 Edgar Award for best first novel) and several other Levin novels and plays-including No Time for Sergeants, Rosemary's Baby, The Boys from Brazil, The Stepford Wives and Deathtrap-have been adapted into popular films. The front endpaper includes a handwritten notation by a previous owner. The book is in very good condition: the paper has yellowed with age, the binding has faded slightly, and the dust jacket has moderate wear and some small chips at the corners and top and bottom of the spine.
