Ernest Hemingway. For Whom the Bell Tolls. New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1940. First edition with first issue dust jacket. Book slightly cocked. Price-clipped jacket is worn. Very good.More Information:
First edition with Scribner's "A" on the copyright page. Octavo. 471 pages.
Publisher's tan cloth with red and black stamping. Cloth is mildly darkened along edges. Endpapers show typical darkening around glued areas. A few pages have mild soiling near the upper fore-edge. mall dampstain on upper corner of rear board. Spine has a slight lean. First issue dust jacket has no photographer credit on the rear panel. Jacket is price-clipped and rubbed, with chipping at spine ends and corners. A very good copy.
