Description
Ayn Rand. Atlas Shrugged. New York: Random House [1957].First edition. Octavo. 1,168 pages.
Green-cloth-bound. Gold lettering and decorations and black backstrip on spine. Gold lettering and decoration on front cover. Overall fine condition. The dust jacket is very good with some wear and paper loss on the spine and at the corners, and some creases on the back cover.
At 1,168 pages, Atlas Shrugged is Ayn Rand's longest novel. Exercising her own individualistic, egocentric philosophy of Objectivism, she considered it her magnum opus. "Individuals of the mind" strike against society, refusing to share their work with the rest of the world. Stressing the primacy of private property ownership and laissez-faire capitalism, Rand argues against any kind of government intervention in the lives of individual citizens, referring to mandated "self sacrifice" as the downfall of society. From the Robert and Diane Yaspan Collection.
