[Sir Walter Scott]. The Pirate. Edinburgh: Printed for Archibald Constable and Co., 1822. First edition, later state, with "there" instead of "their" on p. 17 of Volume II. Three volumes. Half polished leather over drab boards. Leather worn. Very good.

More Information:

First edition. Three small octavo volumes. vii, 322; 332; 346. Later state of the first edition, with "there" instead of "their" at the end of line 20 on p. 17 of Volume II; and semicolon after the first "Co." of the imprint on the title page of Volume I. (Todd 156Aa). Contemporary gilt-stamped half polished calf over drab boards. Leather worn; joints splitting. Hinges cracked, but bindings all tight. Occasional minor spotting. Two inked names to front pastedown of Volume I, with date 1824. Each volume in its own chemise, all of which are housed in a worn gilt-stamped quarter leather book-backed slipcase. A not unattractive set in very good condition. As was common, Scott's name did not appear in these volumes; he was referred to only as "the author of 'Waverley, Kenilworth,' &c."
