Description

[H. G. Wells]. Pearson's Magazine Bound Volumes with Complete Serialization of H.G. Wells' The War of the Worlds. [London: C. Arthur Pearson Ltd., 1897.] Eight Pearson's Magazines, April of 1897 through December of 1897. Octavo. 363-708; 1-754 pages. Yellow illustrated wrappers. Internally clean and fresh. Some spotting to the edges. Some of the magazines have some loss to heads and feet of the paper spines. Light soiling to the wrappers. In modern custom half-leather solander box. An impressive and unsophisticated complete serialized run of the first appearance of Wells' acclaimed early novel. Overall. A very good, bright set. This serialized version preceded the William Heinemann edition by a year. Notable here are the many illustrations by Warwick Goble which, though not used for the Heinemann edition, were incorporated into the first American edition of 1898. Hammond B 5. Wells 14. From the Jerry Weist Collection.
