Octave Uzanne. The French Bookbinders of the Eighteenth Century. Chicago: The Caxton Club, 1904. Limited to an edition of 252 copies printed on hand-made paper. Quarto. 131 pages. With six wash drawings by Paul Avril, fourteen facsimile binders' labels and twenty duotone plates of fine bindings. Beautifully bound in black morocco with lavish gilt decoration on the boards, gilt decoration and titles in six compartments between five raised bands on the spine, complimentarily decorated two-color morocco doublures, moiré silk endpapers, and a gilt top edge. Velvet-backed cloth dust jacket. Housed in a quarter-leather, velvet lined slipcase. The book is fine; the slipcase has wear to the leather spine.
