Description
A Beautiful Chinese Fore-Edge Painting with a Landscape Scene
[Fore-Edge Painting]. Asing Li Piao Ti Hui Yao. [N.p., n.d., ca. 1650].Octavo (approximately 10.75 x 7 inches). With a beautiful fore-edge painting (by Like Hung Li) in vertical aspect. Chinese characters appear in the upper left corner, and with a scene of a mountain and village in the background. There are trees and a bridge at the bottom. There are three signatures in red on this painting, which indicate that this painting may have been done in the nineteenth century. With a neat, lengthy inscription in English on the first page.
Bound in the Chinese-style flexible wrapper of dark blue with gold. Text a bit toned with some dampstaining; several of the strings on the binding have sprung. Overall, very good. Enclosed in a brocade "puzzle" case with inner cover in three pieces which interlock, with white ivory clasps (lower board and rear panel of case have become detached, yet are still present.
