Description

Mae West. "Diamond Lil". NY: [1949]. First Sheridan House edition. Inscribed by West to her co-star.

More Information:

Mae West. "Diamond Lil". New York: Sheridan House, [1949]. First Sheridan House edition. Presentation copy, inscribed by West to an actor who co-starred with her in the revival of this play.

Inscribed on the front free endpaper: "To/Walter Petrie/Who brought to life for the third time/The great Bowery Boss, Gus Jordan/Best Wishes to the handsomest Gus./from/"Diamond Lil" and the Author/Mae West". Octavo. 256 pages. Publisher's full light gray buckram, front cover and spine lettered in dark brown, dust jacket. Jacket spine a bit dull, some edgewear and minor chipping to jacket, some dampstaining to corners of binding and edge of text block, some smudging to the inscription (seemingly done by West herself). Still, a very good copy.

This edition was released to coincide with the revival of this play in the 1940's.  This is the play in which she uttered the immortal "Come up and see me sometime."

From the John McLaughlin/Book Sail Collection.
