Description

The Third Bond Novel in the Elusive Jacket

Ian Fleming. Moonraker. London: Jonathan Cape, [1955]. First edition. With "shoot" complete with matching "t" on page 10 (although a firm priority is not established, Biondi and Pickard theorize that during the production, after some copies were printed, the original "t" fell out of the type and that more copies were printed without it, the error was discovered and more copies were printed with a mis-matched "t" - therefore they believe the sequence is this: copies in the earliest state have the matching "t" (as this one does), then the second state copies have no "t", and third state copies have a mis-matched "t"). Octavo. [256] pages. Publisher's black paper binding, front board and spine lettered in silver, first issue dust jacket (with price of "10s. 6d. net" and with jacket design credit). Jacket toned (especially at spine), with some rubbing and a few minor tears. The colors on the spine are quite visible and not nearly as faint as is usually seen on this jacket (the spine of this title is notorious for the colors fading to near-invisibility). Minor rubbing to binding, some inoffensive offsetting and foxing to endleaves. Still, a near fine copy, better than usually seen. Biondi/Pickard, pp. 41-42. From a private collection in North Carolina.
