Edward Orme. An Essay on Transparent Prints, and on Transparencies in General. London: Printed for, and Sold by, the Author, 1807. First edition. Large quarto. Half-title, title page, dedication, vii, [67] pages. Engraved title with large allegorical vignette, thirteen plates (eight colored) including one double-page plate, four half-page engraved plates; lacking two plates "Outside of a Cottage in Buckinghamshire" and "Inside of a Cottage in Buckinghamshire." Plates 5, 7, 8, 9 are engraved on pages 22, 29, 39, 44 of text. Text in English and French facing. Original paper-covered boards over half-brown cloth with large oval printed paper label to front board; worn and rubbed with some scuffing, chipping, and staining. Cream-colored endpapers, all edges trimmed; endpapers foxed. Some toning and spotting to text block, engraved title and double-page plate moderately foxed, other scattering foxing and staining, over-opened between page 54 and plate "St. Athanasius." Still a good copy of this text on transparent prints.
