Octavo (8.5 x 5.25 inches; 217 x 135 mm.). 300, [3, blank] pages; engraved title-page and seven engraved plates inserted throughout. Contemporary red morocco, boards decoratively stamped in gilt and ruled in blind, spine tooled in gilt, black gilt morocco lettering label, all edges gilt. Spine repaired; joints reinforced; front joint starting; some color correction to binding; binding worn and soiled. Hinges cracking; endleaves toned and foxed; text foxed. Good; housed in slipcase. The Purloined Letter appears on pages 41-61. This is the third of Poe's three detective stories featuring C. Auguste Dupin. BAL 16143.
