E. L. Deaton. Indian Fights on the Texas Frontier. A True Account of the Last Exciting Encounters with Redskins in Hamilton, Comanche, Brown, Erath and Adjoining Counties, as Recorded by E. L. Deaton, a Texan of Pioneer Days, and Republished by One of His Descendants - Floyd J. Holmes, Fort Worth, Texas. Fort Worth: Pioneer Publishing, 1927. 8vo. 161 pp. Red pattered cloth over limp boards. Gilt lettering to front board and spine. Bookplate to front pastedown. Binding dusty, gilt lettering dulled. Very good.The first edition was reviewed in Volume X of The Quarterly of the Texas State Historical Association (page 183): "This is made up of very readable reminiscences of little known encounters in the district mentioned, which throw some light on the struggle with Redskins, which was part of the life of the pioneer settlers." The book was originally published in Hamilton, Texas, in 1894 and is exceedingly rare. This later reprinting is also a scarce item.
