Signed by Walt Disney and Five Legendary
Disney Animators
[Walt Disney Studios]. Ward Greene. Lady and the
Tramp. Pictures by Joe Rinaldi. New York: Simon and
Schuster, [1953]. First edition. Signed by Walt Disney in green
pencil on the title-page; additionally signed by Eric Larson, Ollie
Johnston, Frank Thomas, Wolfgang ("Woolie") Reitherman and Bill
Justice on the front free endpaper in various color inks or
pencils. Octavo. [140] pages ["About the Author," printed on
the recto of the rear free endpaper]. Publisher's rust cloth
backstrip over blue cloth boards, front board stamped in dark blue,
spine lettered in dark blue, dust jacket. Some moderate rubbing to
jacket, minor rubbing to binding. Overall, a fine copy. Housed in a
custom quarter blue morocco clamshell case.All of the animators who signed (with the exception of Bill Justice) are members of Disney's famed group of primary animators and directors, the "nine old men," all of whom also worked as supervising animators on Lady and the Tramp. Bill Justice also had a distinguished career at Walt Disney Studios, working on many short cartoons, as well as Peter Pan (1953) and Alice in Wonderland (1951). All five animators are "Disney Legends," an elite group of artists, writers, actors, and directors who have made significant contributions to the success of the Walt Disney Studios and theme parks.
