Charles Smith. The American War, from 1775 to 1783, with Plans. New York: Printed for C. Smith, 1797. Octavo. 183 pages. With five folding plans (of seven) and two plates, including portrait frontispiece of Gen. Washington. Lacking "Plan of the Siege of Charlestown in South Carolina" and "A Plan of the Investment of York and Gloucester, Virginia." Without the engraved portrait of Anthony Wayne, not called for by Sabin, but present in some copies. Contemporary calf, red leather label to spine, lettered and ruled in gilt.

Condition: Binding moderately worn, scuffed, and rubbed; corners bumped, other edgewear. Front board detached from joint, now re-attached with two linen adhesive strips, rear board partially detached, also held with the linen adhesive. Moderately foxed throughout, some dampstaining, a few scattered repairs with Japanese tissue, primarily to title page, though some to text block. Folding plans moderately dampstained, some splits along folds, some with losses, Plan III trimmed at bottom edge with loss to caption text, bottom third of Plan IV separated but present. Ink ownership to rear pastedown, a few ink annotations to verso of Plan V. Fair.
