Description

Leni Riefenstahl. Kampf in Schnee und Eis. Leipzig: Hess & Becker Verlag, [1933]. Later edition ("19. Bis 24. Tausend"). Inscribed by Riefenstahl to author Irving Wallace on the verso of the frontispiece "Irving Wallace...Leni Riefenstahl Los Angeles - Dec. 1938." Octavo. 113 pages. With 155 photographic illustrations. Publisher's original cloth with titles and a mountain vignette on the front board stamped in brown. Dust jacket.

In November, 1938 Leni Riefenstahl visited Hollywood to secure an American distribution deal for her film Olympia, a documentary record of the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Irving had moved to Hollywood in 1935 and worked off and on for movie related magazines and papers so it is likely in this capacity that the two met.

Condition: Toning to the spine and edges of the boards; light wear at corners and spine ends; toning to the edges of the pages; 1.5" split in front hinge; dust jacket browned with water stains on the front panel; rear panel detached with some loss at the spine ends but sound in a protective mylar sleeve. Very good.
