Frontispiece, many illustrations, index. Bound in three-quarter leather over boards. Gilt lettering to spines. Marbled endpapers. Top edges gilt. Detached bookplate from the library of Matthew F. Kreisle in second volume.

Captain Buckley Burton Paddock was a business and civic leader and a four-term mayor of Fort Worth. The book provides the standard overview of Texas history, but it also contains a wealth of information about prominent individuals living at the time in central and western Texas. Not referenced in either Howe or Jenkins, Cracker Barrel Chronicles.

Condition: Joints of volume two weak and separating. Edges of boards are worn and corners bumped, lettering on spines is slightly rubbed. Leather dry and crumbling at extremities. Overall, very fine.
