Description

Anthony Burgess. A Clockwork Orange. London: Heinemann, [1962]. First edition with first issue dust jacket. Octavo. 196 pages. Publisher's black cloth; original illustrated dust jacket designed by Barry Trengrove. Minor edgewear, head and foot of spine just pushed. White endpapers; small ink ownership and penciled bookseller's notations to the front endpapers. Internally clean and tight; text block edges lightly toned with minor wear. Dust jacket unclipped (16s) and featuring wide flaps; spine lightly sunned, minor edgewear, chipping to head and foot of spine and corners, 37mm closed tear to the front panel affecting the "O" in "Clockwork" and the "A" in the author's name, closed tear and head of spine reinforced on verso with archival tape, still remarkably bright for the notoriously fragile purple color. Near fine book with very good dust jacket.

A Clockwork Orange is typically regarded as one of the most significant and influential dystopian books of all time and was chosen for Time magazine's list of the 100 best English-language novels written since 1923.
