Complete in two large quarto volumes. iv, 596; 629, [1, Errata]. 48 of the 51 maps and plates called for. Full contemporary calf. Spines with five raised bands and two gilt-stamped morocco labels. Leather quite worn, with repairs to joints and spines. Occasional mild foxing and offsetting throughout, but interior generally quite clean. Minor closed tears to a few folding maps and to plates. With engraved armorial bookplate of James Shepherd on front pastedowns; also with his ink name, date Nov. 21st, 1787, and elaborate flourish on front free endpaper of each volume. With an Appendix Containing an Account of the Rise and Progress of the Present Unhappy Contest Between Great Britain and Her Colonies. London: Printed for Fielding and Walker, 1778. First edition. Complete in two large quarto volumes. iv, 596; 629, [1, Errata]. (Sabin calls for "Directions for placing the Maps and Cuts" at the end of Volume II - that is not present here, but, instead an Errata page follows page 629.) 48 of the 51 maps and plates called for (15 maps and 33 plates present). Full contemporary calf. Spines with five raised bands and two gilt-stamped morocco labels. Leather quite worn, particularly at extremities, boards scraped and scarred. Spine of Volume II beginning to split. Repairs to joints and spines. Occasional mild foxing and offsetting throughout, but interior generally quite clean. Minor closed tears to a few folding maps and to plates. Dampstain at gutter margin of pages 509-606 of Volume II. With engraved armorial bookplate of James Shepherd on front pastedowns; also with his ink name, date Nov. 21st, 1787, and elaborate flourish on front free endpaper of each volume. Also on front free endpapers the ink name "T. Hinds / Sandwich / Kent." Very good condition.

The first volume focuses primarily on Latin America, the second on North America. The 220-page Appendix deals mostly with the American Revolution.
