Description

Very Rare 1883 Kansas Brand Book of the Cherokee Strip Livestock Association. Among the most avidly collected artifacts of the Old West are these brand books, which have auction records to well in excess of $5,000. This eighty-four page volume includes "MARKS & BRANDS of the Cattle and Horse Raisers of South-Western Kansas, the Indian Territory, and the Panhandle of Texas for the ROUND-UP OF 1883."

The book is divided into two sections. The first has drawings of five steers on each page, showing both the identified brand and the position where it was customarily branded on the steer. The second part is a brand index and the owner of that brand. Some wear on original leather cover, especially lower portion of the spine, but interior pages in excellent condition. One of but a small handful of known copies. Measures 3.5" x 6".
