Description

Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill: Addresses of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. Washington, DC: U.S. Government Printing Office, December 1942. Limited Edition of 100 copies of which this is unsigned, unnumbered. Small, slim quarto. 56 pages. Vellum-backed marbled paper boards. Gilt-stamped dark blue leather spine label. Top edge gilt. In original slipcase.

First edition of the first wartime White House Christmas book which contains seven major war addresses including FDR's December 8, 1941 "Date of Infamy" speech, asking for a declaration of war against Japan. Includes the fold-out facsimile of the "Declaration by United Nations" which pledged cooperation against the Tripartite Pact.

Specially bound at the President's expense. These were given as gifts exclusively to the President's closest friends, family, and select Cabinet members. According to our research, no records were found for an unsigned, unnumbered copy at auction.

Condition: Some rubbing of the board panels and corner tips, thumb soiling and spotting to the spine vellum, with a very tiny split in the center spine gutter of the front board. Small chip to the upper right spine label corner, and peeling up of the lower left spine label corner. Rear endpaper lightly toned, and some toning along the rear hinge. Short tear at the lower edge of pages 55/56. Only very light wear to slipcase.
