Aldous Huxley. Brave New World. London: Chatto & Windus, 1932. First edition. Octavo. [vi], 306, [2, imprint] pages. Publisher's teal cloth, spine stamped in gilt; original illustrated dust jacket. Cocked, corners just rubbed, head and foot of spine just pushed, spine sunned. Cream endpapers, top and fore-edge trimmed, top edge stained dark blue, bottom edge rough trimmed; minor foxing, booksellers' pencil notations (some effaced) to the front endpapers, front free endpaper creased vertically. Internally generally clean and tight; minor intermittent foxing chiefly to edges, text block edges toned, top edge stain somewhat faded. Dust jacket unclipped (7s 6d); minor edgewear, spine sunned, minor foxing, 20 x 24 mm closed tear to the foot of the spine panel, approximately 50 mm closed tear to the head of the spine panel and extending onto the front panel, 15 mm closed tear to the bottom edge of the back panel, 23 mm closed tear to the top edge of the front panel affecting the title, tears closed on verso with cellotape on verso, tape dried and toned. Very good book with good dust jacket."...a brilliant and perceptive polemic, and the opposing side of the argument has found no advocate of comparable eloquence. It stands alongside We and Nineteen Eighty-Four as one of the classic dystopian novels" (AoW).
