Limited to 1,000 copies, designed by Rockwell Kent and printed under the supervision of William A. Kittredge at R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company. Three quarto volumes. xxvii, [1], 279, [1, blank]; vi, [2], 284; vii, [1], 282, [6] pp. With 280 woodcut illustrations by Rockwell Kent. Original beveled black cloth, front board and spine stamped in silver in a design by Kent, top edges stained black. Two of three volumes with clear plastic protective sleeve over the boards. Housed in the original issue aluminum slipcase. Occasional, very subtle offsetting from the illustrations, as is usual. Minor shelf wear to boards, with some noticeable rubbing to the spine and boards of volume three. Spines lightly sunned. Two ownership bookplates belonging to Western artist Harold L. Doolittle affixed to each front pastedown. A few healthy bumps to the aluminum case. Overall, a near fine copy of a gorgeously-produced work. Johnson, p. 354.
