Inscribed by the author opposite the title page, "Miss Kelly / from the Author / December, 1845." Octavo. 193 pages. Text decorated with elaborate red frames and chapter titles further decorated in gilt, blue, and red. Rivière & Son binding; contemporary levant green morocco elaborately decorated in gilt and red morocco onlays in Persian motifs, spine decorated in gilt with four raised bands and double solid gilt roll to edges. Spine sunned, joints just starting. Turn-ins decorated in gilt with binder's stamp to front turn-in, maroon endpapers; somewhat rubbed, bookplate of Herschel V. Jones to front free endpaper recto. Internally generally clean and tight, all edges trimmed, top edge gilt; minor foxing, some offsetting, minor wear and soiling to text block edges. Auction sale record from the collection of William Randolph Hearst laid in. Housed in crocodile-textured brown cloth slipcase lined in fleece; rubbed and worn with some losses. Very good or better.
