Description

William T. Sherman Brady Cabinet Card Signed Three Times. An elegant Brady cabinet card of William T. Sherman, a chest, up portrait in uniform, signed "W.T. Sherman General Apr 19 1883" in the bottom margin. Sherman has added an inscription and a second full signature on verso. A dedicatory note at bottom verso, "This photograph is about as good as any - W.T.S." signed with his initials constitutes a third signature. The photo is inscribed to Edgar F. Gladwin of Brooklyn, NY; who is listed a subscriber to the U.S. Grant monument fund in a NY Times article dated Aug. 2, 1885. Although unexamined out of the frame, the cabinet card appears to be in near fine condition, with excellent contrast and tone. It is framed to an overall size of 11.25" x 17.25", and in a fashion such that the verso of the card is visible.
