Description

William McKinley Autograph Letter Signed on Executive Mansion Letterhead. One page, 4.37" x 2.75", Washington; September 24, 1898. A brief letter to Gordon A. Block, "I was very much pleased with your letter." Signed, "William McKinley."

Written during his presidency, McKinley penned the dispatch only a month after Spanish forces in the Philippines surrendered to the United States. Two days after sending this response, McKinley appointed a commission to investigate the conduct of the War Department. This letter boast a strong, clear signature from McKinley and catches the late President in a moment of peace amidst complex international affairs.

Condition: Light smudging and toning around the edges. Mounting adhesive slightly visible on verso. Ink of date has faded a bit. Minor smudge to signature.
