Description

Zachary Taylor Document Signed "Z. Taylor Col/ 1st Kyt. U.S. Infy./ Comdr." One page, 8" x 10", December 15, 1835, Fort Crawford [Wisconsin], to "Genl. R. Jones", concerning a transfer request and leave requests. Fine. Framed and matted with a likeness of Taylor to an overall size of 24.5" x 17.5".

More Information:

The left column of the document refers to requests "For the purpose of visiting friends and relatives in the state of Pennsylvania." The right column refers to the "within application" [not included] concerning "Wood [who] has been some time on the frontier & I think is entitled to the indulgence asked for." Taylor, who would later become the twelfth president, was serving in the Second Seminole War when this document was written. Later in 1838, he was promoted to brigadier general.
