Description
Zachary Taylor Autograph Letter Signed "Z. Taylor" as President. One page, 4.75" x 5.5" (sight); Washington; July 6, 1849. A brief letter to an unnamed recipient, providing an introduction to a personal friend from Louisiana: "This will be handed you by my friend J.K. Elgee Esq. of Louisiana who I beg leave recommend to your particular attention. He will call on you on business which I know you will attend to with much pleasure."Handwritten letters by Taylor as president are rare, as he served from March 1849 to July 1850, when he died in office. J.K. Elgee was a lawyer and wealthy planter in Louisiana who was lifelong friend of the Taylor family.
Condition: The letter is matted with an engraving of Taylor to an overall size of 14" x 9.75". With stray ink smears and soiling, the letter is affixed directly to the bottom mat.
