Woodrow Wilson Celebrates a Friend's Mayoral Prospects in a Warm Personal Letter
Woodrow Wilson Autograph Letter Signed ("Woodrow
Wilson"). One and a half pages on two leaves, 5 1/8 x 7 3/4
inches; Princeton, [N. J.]; October 19, 1901.Wilson writes to Charles A. Talcott, a close friend and former Princeton classmate, responding to news of his potential election as mayor of Ithaca. In full:
"My dear Charlie,
Warren, of '81, sent me a copy of the Ithaca Daily Press yesterday which confidently speaks of your election as mayor. My New York paper contains so little state news that I had not heard of the nomination at all. I wish I were there to take the slump for you! It does me good to have anything from or about you, directly or indirectly, - and it seems a dismal while between the too few times when I see you. I make this editorial, therefore, an excuse for sending you my love. May Ithaca have such a mayor!
I find the old affection grow stronger, not weaker, my dear fellow, as the years come and go. May God bless you!

Woodrow Wilson."
