William McKinley Orders the Great Seal Affixed to a Letter of Congratulations to Queen Victoria for Achieving a 60 Year Reign

William McKinley "Affix-the-Seal" Document Signed ("William McKinley"). One partially printed page on Executive Mansion letterhead, 8 x 10 1/8 inches; Washington; May 28, 1897. The verso is docketed as, "28 May, 1897 / Envelope of letter to Queen Victoria."

The document reads, in part: "...the envelope containing my letter of felicitation to Queen Victoria upon the sixtieth anniversary of her reign." Boldly signed, "William McKinley" at the conclusion.

Queen Victoria would go on to serve an additional 4 years as the longest-reigning British monarch until Queen Elizabeth II surpassed her in 2015. Interestingly, both McKinley and Victoria would die in 1901-Queen Victoria died of natural causes on January 22nd, while McKinley was assassinated on September 6th.

Condition: Very good. Toned along three edges (top, bottom, and left), with light toning along minor creasing to the verso. Pencil annotations to the verso.
