Taft Supreme Court signed photograph
William H. Taft Supreme Court Photograph Signed by All Nine Justices ca. 1927. B/W, 9.75" x 7.75", showing four seated and five standing justices, with Taft sitting prominently in the center. The justices, all signing below the image, include Taft, James C. McReynolds, Oliver W. Holmes Jr., Edward T. Sanford, George Sutherland, Pierce Butler, Willis Van Devanter, Harlan F. Stone, and Louis D. Brandeis. Taft has the distinction of being the only person to serve both as president and as a Supreme Court chief justice. (His lifelong desire had been to be chief justice, not president.) He served as chief justice until his death in 1930. This photograph is affixed to a thick and slightly larger paperboard (12" x 10.5").Auction Info
