Description

Ulysses S. Grant Autograph Letter Signed. One page with blank integral, 7.75 x 9.75"; Vicksburg, Mississippi; August 8, 1863. Writing to Major General James B. McPherson, Grant writes: "If you have any young men in your command between the ages of sixteen and twenty-one who are suitable persons to receive a cadet-ship at West Point send in the names of them to the number of about five. I have received notice that vacancies from Arkansas & Mississippi would be filled from this command." Signed, "U. S. Grant" adding his rank as Major General.

Condition: Flattened folds with light toning. Two areas of spotting at left margin do not affect any text. Light soiling along folds on verso.
