Description

Thomas Jefferson Signed Scallop Top Ship's Passport. Partly printed on vellum, 10.2" x 15.25"; October 22, 1807. Countersigned by James Madison as Secretary of State. Issued to the "Brig Northern Liberties of New York - Adam Masterton, master or commander."

Condition:
Blind embossed paper seal is present, with two small tears to paper. Flattened folds, and light soiling and toning throughout. Jefferson's signature has faded a bit, but is large and remains visible. The vellum is translucent in a few areas, and a small hole occurring at a fold juncture in the second engraving has been repaired on verso with tape. Right edge of vellum is uneven, not from damage or chipping, but rather resulting from being untrimmed.
