Description

Thomas Jefferson Land Deed Signed as Governor of Virginia. One partially printed page, 8.25" x 13", Williamsburg; November 10, 1779. A legal document recognizing a tract of "Sixty one acres" in Botetourt County has been granted to "Esem Hannan assignee of John Bonman" after he paid ten shillings sterling to the Treasury of the Commonwealth. Jefferson signed it as the second Governor of Virginia, "Th. Jefferson." The verso has been docketed and contains a listing of the property's sale by Hannan to James Henes in July 1791 and then again to Andrew Shaver in August 1791. Red wax seal attached at bottom left corner.

Condition: Signature light. 4" closed tear along the uppermost horizontal fold. Uniform block of toning with light dampstaining and foxing throughout. Thin strip of dried adhesive along top edge indicating previous mounting.
