Description

Thomas Jefferson Autograph Letter Signed "Th: Jefferson." One page, 7.25" x 7", Monticello, Virginia, August 27th, 1808. This letter was written to Caesar A. Rodney, the nephew Declaration of Independence Signer, Caesar Rodney. Rodney was currently serving as United States Attorney General under Jefferson. The letter reads in part, "…I see no reason against your giving your opinion, in favor of General Allen, to him to be used with British Government. The only doubt I ever entertained on it was that which you mention respecting his bail, and I have not yet seen my way out of that…We have not received one interesting word from Genl. Armstrong or Mr. Pickney since our separation. I salute you with affection and respect..."
The letter is in very fine condition; usual folds are present; signature still bold and dark. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
