Description

Theodore Roosevelt: Signed Check. 8 5/8" x 3", New York; June 7, 1917. Mounted to a board to an overall size of 10 1/2" x 5 7/8". An Astor Trust Company check completed in blue ink in Roosevelt's hand, made payable "to the order of Miss Josephine M. Stricker" for $200. Signed at the lower right, "Theodore Roosevelt." Stricker served as Roosevelt's secretary during his post-presidential years, and was the individual who reported his death to the press in 1919. The present check was likely issued in payment of her salary or for related expenses.

Includes a certificate of authenticity from University Archives.

Condition: Mounted to board with adhesive. A touch of thumbsoiling; ink very slightly smudged at the end of Roosevelt's signature. Cancelled with holes punched through the center, not affecting signature; overall a fine example.
